About the event
Deep Tasting is a blind-tasting class built around 10 wines that are not always easy to place, assess or interpret.
Through focused tasting, comparison and discussion, we examine quality and condition while exploring wines that fall outside familiar stylistic expectations. We look at unusual expressions, departures from typical character, and the sometimes difficult distinction between an intentional feature, a deviation from the norm and a fault or flaw.
The emphasis is on careful sensory assessment: identifying what is present in the glass, then considering stylistic intent, accepted norms within a wine or category, sensory thresholds and individual tolerance. The aim is to understand when a characteristic belongs, when it becomes a deviation, and what that means for the wine’s quality and condition.
